Performances and Master Classes:
PCP students perform at three different events: Music Hour, Master Classes and the Holiday Concert. In addition, students perform for Department Chair and outside adjudicators twice during the year to receive feedback, pieces are performed by memory and will represent different musical eras.
The Suzuki method is recommended for beginning piano students age 3-6.
Developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the approach is based on how children learn their native language - exposure, action, and repetition.
The Suzuki Method is a beginning approach for children from three to six years of age. Much of the children’s success hinges on the formation of solid “Triangle Teams” - teacher, student and parent – that work together to support young children in their practice and learning.
Pieces are learned by ear and played from memory, and lessons are paired with a weekly repertoire class that immerses students with others at their age and skill level. Parental involvement and group learning are core components of this approach and note reading is taught at the appropriate time.
