We provide lessons in more than 25 instruments and voice, as well as a variety of dance classes!
Every year Third Street welcomes thousands of people to experience the joy and benefits of learning music and dance. Whether you're interested in playing an instrument, singing, dancing, creating, or composing, you can expand your musical horizon with us by learning different styles and genres.
A Traditional Approach to learning an instrument is generally for students who already have developed fine motor skills and who are able to simultaneously focus on multiple facets of instrument study. This includes the ability to listen, read notes, and the physical coordination of handling an instrument. This approach is appropriate for children ages five and older, depending on the instrument.
There are many methods for teaching music. The most effective teachers bring the best of what they have learned through their own training and experience and develop an approach that enables them to respond to the needs of each individual student.
In general, the traditional approach to music study integrates note reading and playing with a customized repertoire based on the student’s needs and interests.
The benefits of individual lessons at Third Street:
Our lessons are taught by exceptional faculty in an environment that nurtures individual achievement and creativity. With a mission to provide access to high-quality music education to all people, no matter their financial situation, Third Street is a music school for everyone.
The Suzuki Method is recommended for beginning string, flute, and piano students ages 3.5 and up. Developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the Suzuki approach is based on how children learn their native language - exposure, action, and repetition. Pieces are learned by ear and played from memory, and lessons are paired with a weekly repertoire class that immerses students with others at their age and skill level. Parental involvement and group learning are core components of this approach and note reading is taught at the appropriate time.
Third Street Music School offers individual lessons on the following instruments: Bassoon, Cello, Clarinet, Euphonium, Flute, French Horn, Guitar, Oboe, Percussion, Piano, Recorder, Saxophone, String Bass, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Ukulele, Viola, Violin and Voice
INDIVIDUAL LESSONS (30,45, & 60 minutes) provide personal weekly instruction in more than 25 instruments and voice. Strings, piano, and flute are also offered using the Suzuki method by including weekly repertoire classes.
DUO LESSONS (30 & 45 minutes) consist of two students of a similar age and skill level in a supportive and encouraging environment. By studying a new instrument together, students help each other learn and grow.
GROUP LESSONS (45 minutes) are for our youngest learners and for first and second year membership of our Partners Program. Lessons take place in small, fun and supportive groups of three or four students of a similar age and skill level.
FLEX PASSES (2, 4 or 8 hours) offer adults flexibility in scheduling their lessons and the opportunity to try a new instrument out before making a long-term commitment. they include either 2,4 or 8 hours of individual lessons that are scheduled at a date and time that is mutually agreed upon by teacher and student.
CLASSES ranging from music theory and composition to improvisation and music production, students can enhance their learning experiences with supplemental classes. Students enrolled in individual lessons receive a significant discount on these classes.
