David Moreno
David Moreno chairs the guitar department at Third Street Music School Settlement. A Bronx native and accomplished jazz and classical guitarist, David has performed or recorded with Donald Harrison, Billy Hart, Marvin Smitty Smith, Jimmy Knepper, Claudio Rodditti, John Stubblefield and many more. He has performed at major international jazz festivals as a member of the legendary tenor saxophonist Sam Rivers quartet.
David graduated from New York’s LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. He earned his master’s degree in classical guitar from the Manhattan School of Music. As a composer, he has received several meet-the-composer grants and written music for numerous films and television, including Lifetime television’s highest rated documentary Healthy Start hosted by Brooke Shields. In addition, Moreno has scored the music for Different Moms, All Kinds of Families and The Changing Face of Beauty also for Lifetime, as well as Seven and Counting for A&E Television’s American Justice Series and Body of Evidence for the Court TV network.
His CD State of Things(Beehive) has received critical acclaim and features stellar performances by Antonio Hart and Arturo O’Farrill. David serves as an educational consultant for Fisher Price Inc., assisting in the development of guitar-related instructional products including I can play guitar, a popular and well-reviewed guitar toy for young beginners. As a clinician with the National Guitar Workshop, David has recorded lessons for Workshop Live and manages and directs Dayjams Summer Rock music daycamp. He is currently completing the adjudicator training program in partnership with Toronto’s Royal Conservatory. The Royal Conservatory Music Development Program provides a recognized national standard of musical success through an effectively sequenced course of study from beginner to advanced levels.
David is the founder and director of Take Five Music Workshop, a two week summer songwriting and performance program in NYC for students ages ten to fifteen.
